WELCOME TO THE ABTEAM OCTOBER BLOG!
October is harvest season in North America, and here, in our local real estate arena of the beautiful Durham Region, we currently have a bountiful supply – a veritable cornucopia of housing offerings -- ready to be harvested!
Truly, as a collective, the real estate industry is hoping that the Fall 2024 market ushers in a rebound in consumer confidence for the housing market that persists past just one or two quarters; a steady, conservative growth pattern to take us straight through 2025 and beyond. The health and well being of our national economy needs it. Our population growth due to our unprecedented immigration policy requires it. Our manifest national housing shortage demands it. After all, real estate ownership and its myriad affiliated services and products are the very backbone of our country, and we need to get things moving forward once again.
As the Bank of Canada continues its methodical, rate lowering trend, many Canadians can once again entertain the idea of buying their first home, or moving up to that dream property, as their affordability expands with every interest rate drop. Many, unfortunately, will wait for too long and miss out on the tremendous opportunities currently present in our marketplace. This particular autumn season might just be the perfect environment for making that buying decision, with selection and inventory levels at multi-year peaks. At the Anderson Bruni Real Estate Team we are optimistic for a stronger Q4 than we have seen in the last two years, which means that if you know of someone thinking of buying or selling, now would be the time to send them our way!

THANKSGIVING APPETIZER:
Pumpkin Hummus with Cinnamon Sugar Tortilla Chips
This pumpkin hummus is the best hummus recipe! Complete with Cinnamon "sugar" baked tortilla chips, you won't be able to stop eating!
Prep time 15 minutes, cook time 15 minutes minutes
Ingredients
- For the hummus:
- 1 Cup Reduced-sodium Chickpeas de-skinned (180g)*
- 3/4 Cup Canned pumpkin
- 1/4 cup Maple syrup
- 2 tsp Pumpkin pie spice
- 2 tsp Coconut oil melted + additional for drizzling, if desired.
- For the chips:
- 1 Whole wheat tortilla
- 1/2 Tbsp Coconut oil melted
- Brown sugar for sprinkling
- Cinnamon for sprinkling
Instructions
-
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees and rub a cookie sheet with melted coconut oil, set aside.
-
To de-skin the chickpeas:
-
Drain the chickpeas and spread them out on a paper towel. Gently squeeze each chickpea until the thin, papery skin comes off. Repeat with remaining chickpeas
-
Add the chickpeas, pumpkin , maple syrup, pumpkin pie spice and 2 tsps of coconut oil into a small food processor and process until smooth. You may need to stop the processor and scrape down the sides every so often to get everything smooth and mixed, depending on how strong your processor is. Mine took a good 5 to 6 minutes of blending.
-
Cut the tortilla into 8 triangles and lay on the prepared cookie sheet. Brush with 1/2 of the melted coconut oil and then sprinkle with cinnamon and brown sugar. No need to use an exact measurement, just give a good pinch of brown sugar for each chip.
-
Bake for 8 minutes, or until lightly golden. Flip the tortillas, brush with remaining oil and sprinkle with more cinnamon and Brown sugar. Bake for another 7-8 minutes until the tortillas are a deep golden, brown. They will not seem crunchy at first, as the brown sugar will melt. But, once the chips cool and Brown sugar hardens, you will nice and crunchy chips!
-
Drizzle the hummus with additional melted coconut oil, if desired, and DEVOUR with the chips!
Notes
*This measurement is after taking the skin off. If you measure out before, it will be less than 1/2 a cup once the skins are removed.
